Judge rules cameras will roll during R Kelly's sexual abuse trial

A Chicago judge ruled Friday that cameras will be allowed in the courtroom when R&B star R. Kelly goes on trial for 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse later this month, but added that the singer’s accusers can’t be photographed or filmed without their consent.

Associate Judge Lawrence Flood made the comments during a brief hearing in Cook County Circuit Court. He added that two of Kelly’s accusers have already said they don’t want to be filmed. Kelly’s next hearing is on March 22.

R. Kelly, whose full name is Robert Kelly, is one of the best-selling musical artists of all time. Rumors that he raped underage girls and women, holding some as virtual slaves, have dogged him for decades. An explosive documentary series, “Surviving R. Kelly,” aired in January and brought new scrutiny on the Chicago native.

Kelly has vehemently has denied the allegations against him.

In a recent interview with “CBS This Morning” host Gayle King, Kelly swore he “didn’t do this stuff” and said he’s “fighting for his life.”

Kelly was acquitted of child pornography charges in 2008 after prosecutors alleged that a video of him having sex with a 13-year-old existed.

During the King interview he said, “I beat my case. When you beat something, you beat it. You can’t double-jeopardy me like that.”

Having cameras in the courtroom is becoming a common occurrence.

Another judge in the same courthouse agreed Thursday to allow cameras in “Empire” actor’s Jussie Smollett’s plea hearing. Smollett is charged with 16 counts of felony disorderly conduct after authorities alleged he lied about being the victim of a hate crime.

Cameras were also allowed in the high-profile trial of Jason Van Dyke, a Chicago police officer convicted in the shooting death of black teenager Laquan McDonald. Van Dyke was sentenced to 81 months earlier this year.

‘The View’ host Meghan McCain says her late father would laugh that Trump is ‘so jealous of him’

“The View” co-host Meghan McCain thinks her late father would be amused that President Trump keeps him in the news with on-going attacks via Twitter.

Trump has repeatedly tweeted about John McCain – who died in Aug. 2018 – in recent days, falsely claiming the iconic senator graduated “last in his class” at Annapolis and slamming his role in the Russia investigation.

The president also responded recently to reports McCain and an associate had shared with the FBI and various media outlets the unverified dossier alleging that Moscow held compromising information on Trump – but the outspoken ABC News host thinks her dad would laugh it off.

“If I had told my dad, ‘Seven months after you’re dead, you’re going to be dominating the news and all over Twitter,’” Meghan McCain said on Wednesday. “He would think it was so hilarious that our president was so jealous of him that he was dominating the news cycle in death.”

“The View” co-host then advised viewers not to feel bad for her family despite the president mocking her father on a regular basis.

“We are blessed. We are a family of privilege,” she said. “Feel bad for people out there who are being bullied that don’t have support.”

Meghan also thanked her “View” colleagues for the on-going support when it comes to defending her father. Co-host Joy Behar slammed Sen. Lindsey Graham on Monday for aligning with President Trump over his old friend, saying the Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman needs to “find his testicularity.”

Earlier this week, the same topic came up on “The View” and Meghan bashed the president for the Twitter attack on her father.

“He spends his weekend obsessing over great men because he knows it and I know it and all of you know it — he will never be a great man,” she said.

Meghan closed out the rebuke by adding: “I genuinely feel bad for his family. I can’t imagine having a father that does this on the weekends.”

Fox News’ Liam Quinn contributed to this report.
