Jennifer Aniston turns 50: 10 facts you never knew about America's sweetheart

Happy birthday to Jennifer Aniston!

The “Friends” star turned Hollywood icon turned 50 on Feb. 11, 2019, despite looking more than a decade younger (must be all that SmartWater and Aveeno that she endorses). The reluctant tabloid fixture and relatable screen queen has had a lifetime’s worth of ups and downs in the public eye since the 1990s, but there are a lot of quirks hidden underneath Aniston’s shiny golden surface.

Here are 10 fun facts you didn’t know about the woman behind Rachel Green (and one of Hollywood’s most enduring love triangle narratives).

1. Before she was a star, she cleaned toilets.
We know Jennifer Aniston as a bronze beacon of glamour, but before she took the throne as Hollywood’s golden girl, she was polishing porcelain thrones for cash. “I made my allowance as a kid cleaning toilets,” Aniston told Parade in 2009. “I’m actually pretty good at it. I struggled for a while, but I was happy with my life whether I was making this amount of money, or that amount of money. I always enjoyed where I was working.”

2. She was a bad waitress.
Before Central Perk and “Horrible Bosses,” Jennifer Aniston was a horrible server at a restaurant.

“I dropped more than one Alpine burger in customers’ laps, and you just do not want all of that Swiss cheese and mushrooms in your pants,” she told Marie Claire in 2011. “I wasn’t a good waitress, but I was told that I was very nice and charming, so people liked me anyway.”

3. She’s into astrology.
Born Feb. 11, Jennifer Aniston has referenced being an Aquarius and citing it as reasons she has certain traits and habits. She told InStyle in 2017, “I love my me time, and I like being alone a lot, which I guess makes sense as an Aquarian.”

4. She had an … interesting high school experience.
Jennifer Aniston attended the prestigious LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts with Chaz Bono. There, Aniston says, she played volleyball and basketball when not acting or studying drama — and if you can believe it, the perma-tan star says she even went through a goth phase.

“You know, you’re experimenting,” she told People of her “tragic” high school years. “It was the ’80s and I looked like a goth nightmare. I wasn’t going for most beautiful. It was, ‘How can I be the most rebelliously unattractive?'”

5. She and her “Friends” co-stars Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow had the same lunch almost daily for a decade.
Courteney Cox revealed that she, Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow had a “Jennifer salad” every day together on the set of “Friends.” “We always had the same thing: a Cobb salad. But it wasn’t really a Cobb salad. It was a Cobb salad that Jennifer doctored up with turkey bacon and garbanzo beans and I don’t know what,” Cox told the Los Angeles Times.

6. She hated “The Rachel.”
Jennifer Aniston had one of the most iconic haircuts ever during her time on “Friends” as Rachel Green, but she detested the layered look.

“I was not a fan of the ‘Rachel.’ That was kind of cringe-y for me,” she admitted to Glamour. “Looking back — honestly, even during that time — I couldn’t do it on my own. I needed [my hairstylist] Chris [McMillan] attached to my hip. Left to my own devices, I am not skilled with a hairbrush and blow-dryer.”

For his part, McMillan, who still styles Aniston’s signature long blond mane today, admitted he was stoned when he first gave Aniston “The Rachel.”

7. She won the war of public opinion against Angelina Jolie.
At the height of the Jennifer Aniston-Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie love triangle, Vanity Fair reports, Los Angeles boutique Kitson outsold Team Aniston T-shirts to Team Jolie by a 25 to 1 margin.

8. She keeps up with the Kardashians — and “The Bachelor.”
“I sadly am very much interested in the Kardashian-Jenner thing. That’s a guilty pleasure for sure,” Jennifer Aniston confessed to People in 2015.

A year later, she told “Access Hollywood” that she’s obsessed with “The Bachelor,” explaining, “I’m not gonna lie. It’s junk food. It’s great junk food. It’s a train wreck! Have you seen them? You can’t feel bad for them. They’ve done that to themselves, just to entertain us.”

9. She’s scared of flying.
Despite her jet-setting lifestyle, Jennifer Aniston is scared to fly.

“It started in my 20s. It was a weird, scary flight,” she told InStyle. “Afterward I began noticing the stories on the news about plane crashes, and I became all-consumed with the idea of dying on an airplane. It was so out of control in my brain. So, yeah, that’s something I’d like to get rid of. It’s so irrational.”

10. She lived in a haunted house.
Flying isn’t Jennifer Aniston’s only fear. The actress revealed in December 2018 that she lived in a haunted house when she first moved to Los Angeles.

“I didn’t know it was [haunted] — all of a sudden … the dishwasher would start to go, or the coffeemaker would start to go, or the stereo would just turn on at full volume. It was terrifying,” she said. “I had just moved from New York City to California, and someone said to me, ‘You have a spirit in your house, you should have someone come clear the house.'” A spiritualist came and told Aniston that the ghost had a beef with her roommate.

“I moved out [instead of telling the roommate],” she admitted. “I feel terrible, but I couldn’t say, ‘It doesn’t like you!’ I would feel terrible … I got out of there too quick!”

Jussie Smollett has 'no plans' to meet with Chicago police, despite their request

Attorneys for “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett say there are “no plans” for him to meet with Chicago police Monday for a follow-up interview about his alleged assault, even though law enforcement has requested one.

“There are no plans for Jussie Smollett to meet with Chicago police today,” Anne Kavanagh, a spokesperson for Smollett’s attorneys, said in a statement on Monday obtained by The Wrap. “Any news reports suggesting otherwise are inaccurate. Smollett’s attorneys will keep an active dialogue going with Chicago police on his behalf.”

On Saturday, a Chicago police spokesperson said Smollett is no longer considered a victim in the case that allegedly involved an attack by two masked men who shouted racial and anti-gay slurs at the actor and, “This is MAGA country!”

Police earlier said that the “trajectory of the investigation” shifted and that they wanted to conduct another interview with Smollett about the alleged hate crime last month. Police released two Nigerian brothers who were held for questioning about the reported attack. They were released late Friday without charges.

“We can confirm that the information received from the individuals questioned by police earlier in the ‘Empire’ case has in fact shifted the trajectory of the investigation,” Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement at the time. “We’ve reached out to the ‘Empire’ cast member’s attorney to request a follow-up interview.”

‘EMPIRE’ STAR JUSSIE SMOLLETT SPEAKS OUT AFTER ALLEGED HATE CRIME ATTACK

The men were arrested Wednesday night after investigators tracked their movement on surveillance cameras in the area where Smollett said the attack occurred. Smollett, who is black and openly gay, said he was attacked by two masked men on Jan. 29 as he was walking home from a Subway restaurant. Police have said they were investigating the attack as a possible hate crime and earlier considered Smollett a victim.

Smollett’s attorneys, Todd S. Pugh and Victor P. Henderson, vehemently denied that the attack was a hoax, previously telling press, “As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with. He has now been further victimized by claims attributed to these alleged perpetrators that Jussie played a role in his own attack. Nothing is further from the truth and anyone claiming otherwise is lying.”

JUSSIE SMOLLETT DEFENDED BY CRISIS MANAGER AFTER POLICE SAY PHONE RECORDS WERE ‘INSUFFICIENT’

“One of these purported suspects was Jussie’s personal trainer who he hired to ready him physically for a music video. It is impossible to believe that this person could have played a role in the crime against Jussie or would falsely claim Jussie’s complicity,” the statement continued. “Jussie and his attorneys anticipate being further updated by the Chicago Police Department on the status of the investigation and will continue to cooperate. At the present time, Jussie and his attorneys have no inclination to respond to “unnamed” sources inside of the investigation, but will continue discussions through official channels.”

A rep for Smollett did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.

Al Sharpton says Jussie Smollett should ‘face accountability to the maximum’ if attack was orchestrated

Al Sharpton says Jussie Smollett should ‘face accountability to the maximum’ if attack was orchestrated

When “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett said he was attacked by two masked men yelling racist and homophobic epithets, as well as “This is MAGA country,” MSNBC host Al Sharpton came out in support of the star.

“We can’t make people love each other, but we can sure hold them accountable if they harm each other,” Sharpton said at the end of his “Final Thoughts” segment headlined, “We’re with you Jussie.”

But amid multiple reports this weekend that Smollett may have been involved in orchestrating the attack, Sharpton, who made his name in the 1980s as the spokesperson Tawana Brawley in what turned out to be false claims she was raped by four white men, changed his tune on-air on Sunday.

Sharpton still thinks someone should be punished, but his tune has changed as these new reports emerged.

“If it is found that Smollett and these gentlemen did, in some way, perpetrate something that is not true, they ought to face accountability to the maximum,” Sharpton said referring to the actor and two men linked to him who have been questioned by police. “Let us get to the bottom of it, and let justice be done, no matter who is right or wrong.”

POLITICIANS WHO JUMPED ON JUSSIE SMOLLETT ATTACK CLAIM IN AWKWARD SPOT

Smollett, who is black and openly gay, has claimed he was attacked by two masked men early on Jan. 29 as he walked to his Chicago apartment from a Subway restaurant. Smollett alleged the men shouted racial and anti-gay slurs at him.

Sharpton famously lost a defamation suit when the Brawley attack was eventually found not to have happened. Now, there are reports that Smollett might have also orchestrated an alleged attack — as local reports have cited sources saying the attack was a hoax, though the Chicago Police Department has not confirmed that.

Last week, Chicago police questioned two Nigerian brothers in the reported attack but released them Friday without charges. Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the pair had given officers information that had “shifted the trajectory of the investigation.”

“While we are not in a position to confirm, deny or comment on the validity of what’s been unofficially released, there are some developments in this investigation and detectives have some follow-ups to complete which include speaking to the individual who reported the incident, ” Guglielmi said Sunday.

Smollett received an outpouring of support from politicians and celebs when he first went public about the alleged attack in January. Smollett reportedly has claimed at least one of the attackers said to him, “this is MAGA country,” in reference to President Trump’s campaign slogan.

The Brawley rape allegations in the late 1980s left an entire community on the brink of “civil war” – and a recent Fox Nation documentary took a closer look at one of the most racially-charged legal sagas in American history.

The New York teen’s claims — in which she said she was allegedly raped in the woods by multiple white men in Wappingers Falls, New York, and then left wrapped in a feces-covered plastic bag with racial slurs written on her body — helped springboard the careers of activists including Sharpton. But after an extensive investigation filled with twists and turns, a grand jury found the allegations to be an elaborate hoax.

Smollett’s lawyer has denied his client had anything to do with his alleged attack in Chicago.

“As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with,” attorneys Todd S. Pugh and Victor P. Henderson said in a statement. “He has now been further victimized by claims attributed to these alleged perpetrators that Jussie played a role in his own attack. Nothing is further from the truth and anyone claiming otherwise is lying.”
