Felicity Huffman’s ‘Desperate Housewives’ character gave $15G to get twins into private school

Felicity Huffman‘s alleged involvement in a school admissions scheme appears to have been foretold in an episode of “Desperate Housewives.”

The Academy Award-nominated actress made headlines Tuesday after she and fellow actress Lori Loughlin were charged with fraud and conspiracy along with dozens of others in a scam that, according to federal prosecutors, saw wealthy parents pay bribes to get their children into the nation’s top colleges.

Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy wed in 1997.  Huffman and Lori Loughlin were charged along with nearly 50 other people Tuesday, March 12, 2019.

Huffman’s character on the ABC television series “Desperate Housewives” did something similar to what she’s accused of in the fifth episode of the series’ first season.

In the episode, Huffman’s character Lynette Scavo discusses with her husband Tom how their twin sons would get into an elite private school. The two decide they would have to make a contribution to the school in order for them to get in. BuzzFeed was the first to report on the coincidence.

“A generous donation will ensure our kids beat ’em out,” Lynette told Tom.

“How much?” Tom asked his wife.

“$15,000,” she replied.

The fictitious couple come up with the money after they sell Tom’s boat.

Huffman, 56, is accused of paying $15,000 disguised as a charitable donation so her daughter could take part in an apparently rigged college entrance-exam. Court documents stated that a cooperating witness met with Huffman and her husband, actor William H. Macy, at their Los Angeles home and explained to them that he “controlled” a testing center and could have someone secretly alter her daughter’s answers. The person told investigators the couple agreed to the plan.

Huffman was arrested Tuesday before being released on $250,000 bond. Macy has not been charged.

Fox News’ Sasha Savitsky, Julius Young, Mariah Haas and the Associated Press contributed to this report.

Bill Maher: Critics of Beto O'Rourke's silent wife in video should 'shut the f--- up'

HBO host Bill Maher on Monday slammed those on the “far left” who complained that the wife of 2020 contender Beto O’Rourke was silent in his presidential announcement video.

“I see Twitter got made because Beto’s wife didn’t talk during his announcement. You’re right, he’s a sexist monster, we’re better off with Trump,” Maher tweeted. “To my FarLeft friends: you’re doing it again. Amy can talk or not, her call, but you need to shut the f— up.”

BETO O’ROURKE SEEMINGLY ENDORSES THIRD-TRIMESTER ABORTIONS: ‘THAT SHOULD BE A DECISION THE WOMAN MAKES’

O’Rourke, 46, announced he was jumping into the 2020 race on Thursday morning, ending months of speculation about a potential White House bid. He posted a video to Twitter in which he explained why he’s running for president, with his wife, Amy O’Rourke, sitting beside him.

Amy doesn’t speak in the video, and appears to smile, and look at her husband for a majority of the 3-minute, 29-second clip.

Twitter users flocked to the platform to criticize the video, complaining about O’Rourke’s wife’s silence.

One user called the move “disappointing,” and said his wife sitting next to him with “a super sweet looking face is not the right image fir today.”

“Why does wife sit and stare at husband as campaign is announced,” another user tweeted. “So unnatural. Please stop this.”

“wow they really made beto’s wife just sit there and stare at him silently for 3 and a half minutes huh,” someone else wrote.

Soon after his announcement, the former Texas congressman raised eyebrows when he seemingly joked that he only “sometimes” helps his wife raise their three children. He later apologized during a taping of the “Political Party Live” podcast in Cedar Rapids and said the backlash was “constructive criticism.”

“It has already made me a better candidate. Not only will I not say that again,” O’Rourke said to laughter, “but I’ll be much more thoughtful going forward in the way that I talk about our marriage and also the way in which I acknowledge the truth of the criticism that I have enjoyed white privilege.”

O’Rourke’s campaign announced on Monday that the candidate raised a whopping $6.1 million online in the first 24 hours following his announcement, marking a new record for the 2020 Democratic primary race.

Maher, the host of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” also tweeted earlier this month a photo of himself and O’Rourke.

“Look who came to my show in El Paso tonight, ⁦@BetoORourke⁩. Crowd went nuts, same last night when his name came up in Austin,” he tweeted. “Dems cld do a lot worse than putting some of THAT on the ticket.

Fox News’ primetime outdraws MSNBC, CNN despite highly publicized town halls

Fox News Channel attracted more viewers with regular programming on Monday night than CNN or MSNBC did with their highly publicized town hall events.

Fox News averaged 2.8 million primetime viewers compare to 2.1 million for MSNBC and 1.1 million for CNN, according to TVNewser, despite the liberal networks each welcoming 2020 presidential hopefuls

MSNBC featured a town hall event with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, while CNN had a similar event with Sen. Elizabeth Warren but FNC’s lineup of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Hannity” and “The Ingraham Angle” prevailed. Among the key demographic of adults age 25-54, Fox News averaged 484,000 primetime viewers compared to 345,000 for MSNBC and 266,000 for CNN, according to TVNewser.

THIS IS CNN? PRIMETIME SHOWS FILLED WITH LIBERAL OPINION, NOT STRAIGHT NEWS AS NETWORK CLAIMS

FNC picked up the victory on Monday after finishing last week as the most-watched cable network in primetime for the ninth straight week.

Fox News averaged 2.4 million primetime viewers to top all of basic cable for the week of March 11-17, while ESPN averaged 1.9 million to finish second, according to Nielsen Media Research. MSNBC finished third and CNN didn’t crack the top 10. Among total day viewers, Fox News averaged 1.4 million to finish No. 1 and MSNBC came in second with an average of 1 million while CNN averaged only 640,000 viewers.

Next month, Fox News will host a town hall with another 2020 hopeful, former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz. The event is scheduled to be co-anchored by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum on April 4 at 7:30 p.m. ET in Kansas City, Missouri.

Janet Jackson allegedly changes position on Glastonbury Festival poster after original placed her fourth

If there is anything Janet Jackson wants you to know about her, it’s that she’s always the headliner.

That’s what fans pointed out Monday when the singer, 52, shared the lineup for the iconic Glastonbury Festival this year – only Jackson’s version of the poster looked a little different from the original.

As it turns out, the lineup poster Jackson shared with fans on Twitter lists her name first among acts headlining the British festival instead of fourth, where it landed before the change.

It’s unclear who made the alteration, but it seems the legendary pop star and her fans liked the switch. After posting the image with the caption, “Can’t wait to see you,” fans immediately shared their support for Jackson – with one Twitter user responding, “It appears someone corrected it so Janet’s name is first – as it SHOULD be…actually it needs to be at the very top, but I’ll settle.” Another user echoed the sentiment, writing that “Miss Jackson knows her worth.”

EVE SAYS JANET JACKSON HELPED HER RELAX AFTER BEING DRUGGED

When Glastonbury Festival tickets went on sale in October 2018, event organizers went on Twitter to share their gratitude after the event sold out in half an hour, as Billboard reported at the time.

“Tickets have now all sold out! We are blown away by the huge demand, looks like record numbers tried,” read the tweet. “Thank you for your patience and incredible support and for those of you who missed out, there will be a ticket resale in April.”

The Glastonbury Festival runs June 26-30, and although tickets are currently unavailable, organizers say any canceled tickets will be made available to the public on April 28.
